The Erasmus+ programme is one of the most successful achievements of the European Union, next to the creation of the common coin (€) and the single market. The programme was viewed as a road to nurture a European feeling among the EU youth, helping them connect with each other. Since its creation in 1987, Erasmus+ has financed the mobility of 15 million people, collecting general feelings of success and achievement.

However, when asking the public to define the Erasmus+ experience, many times the words that come to mind are “partying” and “traveling”, with aspects such as “cultural embracement” or “integration” being relegated to a secondary thought. This consortium carried out a study with our own students, collecting feedback from Erasmus+ participants of the last 10 years, belonging to 7 different countries. Results showed that, even though many students attempted to participate a bit in the host country culture, the majority did not fully understand the culture (76,8%) or remembered it to this day (50%). They recognised that Erasmus+ students usually limit their contact to other international students.

the DIVE IN Project will work to promote the integration of Erasmus+ students in their host country. The project will help students understand the culture and traditions of the country, while facilitating the engagement with locals.

The project has the following objectives:

1. Promote the integration of Erasmus+ students in their host countries.

2. Promote the European feeling among young people.

3. Encourage the exchange of cultural similarities and differences between Europeans.

4. Reduce the hate speech and attacks, especially due to culture, race, nationalism or social differences.

5. Assist project managers in charge of Erasmus+ students in the adequate integration of the youth in the host country.

6. Collaborate with the adaptation and understanding of cultural distance.

To achieve them, the consortium will create:

· A complete dissemination action in WP2 that will increase the audience reach of the project.

· City Manuals developed in WP3 that will ease the Erasmus+ student in their host city and culture.

· Activities organised in WP4 that will ensure the interaction between locals and Erasmus+ students..
